About Companies House ID Verification

Why You Need to Verify

The new identity verification process introduced by Companies House is designed to prevent the misuse of UK companies for illegal activities such as fraud and money laundering.

Once your ID is verified, you’ll receive a unique Companies House personal code. This code is linked to you personally, not to any specific company. You’ll need this code in the future when:

  • Filing a confirmation statement
  • Becoming a Person with Significant Control (PSC)
  • Being appointed as a company director

Who Needs to Verify?

The following individuals must complete identity verification:

  • Company Directors
  • Members and General Partners
  • Managing Officers
  • Persons with Significant Control (PSCs)
  • Authorised Corporate Service Providers (e.g. accountants)
  • Individuals who file on behalf of a company (e.g. secretaries)

When You Must Verify

As of June 2025, the requirement to verify is being phased in depending on your role:

  • Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs):
From March 18, 2025, verification is required to register as an authorised agent. Verified agents can begin verifying clients from April 8, 2025.
  • Directors and PSCs:
From April 8, 2025, you may begin verifying your identity voluntarily. This will become mandatory in due course.
  • Individuals who file at Companies House:
While not yet required, identity verification will soon become a legal obligation.
